For those of you who have followed this blog for awhile, you know there is a a lot of good information here on how to study the Bible. That is what I am all about. I want people to read the Bible, study it, meditate on it and actually live it out. Because I believe this is so important, I decided to take all this information, simplify it down and put it in a format that is more accessible to people. And so, I wrote a book.
The book is called “A Practical Guide to Studying the Bible“. It is practical in that, as you are reading the Bible, you can use this book as a tool to help you understand what is being said. There are questions to answer and space to fill in the answers. I believe going through this process will take you deeper into the text and get more out of the Bible than just reading it.
I have broken this book into two parts. The first part is a general overview of what to look for when studying the Bible. These are things like who is the author, what is the genre, what historical/cultural issues are there and finally how can you apply this to your life. The second part of the book is the questions to ask as you are studying, with space to write your answers and go through the process of studying the Bible. The first part goes through what you should be looking for with all the questions, so if any question doesn’t make sense, you can go back and look at the corresponding section in the first part of the book.
My hope through this book is that you will gain a better understanding of what the Bible is saying. As we know the Bible more, we will be better prepared to recognize the falsehoods that surround us and combat them with the truth of Scripture. We will better understand our identity in Christ. We will know God more and deepen our relationship with Him as He speaks to us through His word. And, our thoughts will be changed as our minds our transformed by the truth. As we do all this, we can be the light and agents of change in this broken world.
